Inside Our Fit Process: How Jackie London Is Built

Inside Our Fit Process: How Jackie London Is Built

Shapewear is unusually hard to judge before you own it. Two garments can look nearly identical in a product photo and behave completely differently after four hours. Most of what separates them is construction, and construction is exactly what product pages tend not to explain.

So here is ours, in enough detail that you can hold the next piece you buy, from us or from anyone, and know what you are looking at.

We Design at Size, Not by Scaling

A common approach in shapewear is to build one pattern in a base size and enlarge every measurement proportionally to produce the rest of the range. It is efficient, and it holds up across a couple of sizes.

It stops holding up after that, because bodies do not scale uniformly. Torso length changes very little across a size run while circumference changes a great deal, so a uniformly enlarged pattern ends up with a rise that is too long, an anchor point that lands in the wrong place, or a strap carrying far more load per inch than it was drawn to carry.

We re-draw the pattern at intervals across the range instead of stretching one. It is why strap and waistband widths change as the size changes rather than staying constant, and it is the single decision that affects fit the most. We go into what that means for shopping in our guide to why plus size shapewear fit keeps failing.

The Fabric Does the Work

Support comes from the fabric and the way it is assembled, not from making a garment smaller. There are two main materials in our range, and they do different jobs.

Material 1
Seamless knit

Built without thick stitched seams, so there is nothing to print through fitted clothing. It gives soft, gentle shaping and a clean line, and it is what we use where the priority is a smooth, comfortable feel from morning to night.

Material 2
Powernet

A firm, stable mesh engineered to resist stretch rather than to recover from it. That distinction matters over time: a fabric that recovers will relax as it warms through the day, while a fabric that resists keeps its structure. Where a garment is meant to give more defined shaping, the front and side panels are powernet.

If you have shopped for fajas colombianas before, this construction will be familiar, because powernet panels, hook closures, and internal boning are exactly what that term has always described. It is a way of building a garment, and it is the way we build ours.

Four Levels, Defined by How They Are Made

We do not describe our range as light, moderate, or firm, because those words tell you nothing about what creates the support. Our four levels are defined by construction, which means you can verify the level by looking at the garment. Every one of them is made for daily wear in your true size.

Level How it is built What it offers
Medium Soft seamless knit Gentle, versatile shaping
Sculpting Powernet, slips on, no closures Defined shaping without hooks or zippers
High Powernet with hooks and/or zippers Structured support, adjustable fit
Max Powernet with internal boning Our most structured support

You can see each level in a single piece: the seamless shaping tank top at Medium, the slip up body shaper shorts at Sculpting, the tummy control shaper with hooks at High, and the hourglass body shaper with boning at Max. Our compression levels guide covers how to choose between them.

The Details We Spend Money On

A few construction choices cost more and are invisible in a photo. Here is what to check on any piece.

Wide, flat waistbands

A narrow band concentrates all its tension into a thin line, which is why narrow bands fold over. Width is one of the simplest ways to solve that. It is covered in detail in why shapewear rolls down.

Panels that run the full length

Structured fabric that stops partway down the front leaves ordinary stretch below it, so support stops there too. Our front panels run the full rise.

Access points that work

A bodysuit that cannot be managed in a bathroom is a bodysuit you stop wearing. Zipper and snap closures at the gusset exist for that reason, not as a feature to list.

Finished edges

Where a garment ends is where it shows. A clean, flat edge is the difference between an invisible finish and a visible line.

Quality zippers, hooks, and straps

Zippers, hooks, and straps are the parts that take the most stress every time you put a piece on. We choose high-quality hardware and trims for every style, so those details hold up wear after wear instead of becoming the first thing to fail.

What We Will Not Tell You

We will never tell you shapewear helps you lose weight, reduce your size, or change your body. It does not, and we will not suggest otherwise. Shapewear supports and smooths while you wear it, and everything returns to normal when you take it off. That is the honest description of the entire category, ours included.

What we do believe is that feeling good is something you build, and a garment is only one small part of it. Moving in ways you enjoy, eating in ways that nourish you, getting rest, caring for your mental health, and having people who support you all matter far more than anything you put on. The confidence we hope you feel in our pieces comes from that wellbeing. Shapewear can be a comfortable part of your routine, but it is never a substitute for taking care of yourself.

We will not tell you to size down for better support either. It is the most common advice in shapewear, and it causes most of the rolling, digging, and discomfort people blame on the garment. Support comes from construction; a smaller label just stretches the fabric past the range it was engineered for. If you want more support, choose a higher level in your true size. If you are between sizes, size up. Our size guide covers measuring properly.

And once you own a piece, how you wash it determines how long the structure lasts. Powernet loses its resistance if it is treated like ordinary fabric, which is why our care guide exists.

A note on discomfort: everything above is about ordinary tightness, marks, or rolling from the wrong size or fit. That is different from severe pain, numbness, tingling, restricted breathing, unusual swelling, or dizziness. If you experience any of those, remove the garment and check in with a healthcare provider.
